Not the original cushions

I bought my Grado 80 about four years ago; it came with an open cushion (i.e., a ring of foam like the replacements listed for the Grado SR2251, etc. on Amazon, but unlike those sold for the 60i, 80i and 125i). Perhaps the newer Grado 60si and 80si come with the solid cushions, and they will perhaps work well for these later models, though I have my doubts. In any case, I find that the foam between the ear and the headphone speaker, while it does make things more comfortable, also reduces the sound quality considerably. I've taken the cushions off and have left the headphones rest directly on my ear, as it was designed to do (or as the Grados I bought were designed to do). It's a bit uncomfortable, but the sound is MUCH better. The replacement cushions really deaden the sound quality, and I'm not sure it's worth the "comfort." In any case, the original Grados, as I said, came with foam rings that allowed your ear directly to contact the speakers, and they were not terribly comfortable, but I think you need to choose sound quality or comfort. Perhaps the L-CUSH's marketed for the SR2251i (though twice as expensive) would work, but I'm not going to try.UPDATE: the new SR80i from Grado today do indeed come with a solid foam cover; the open foam starts with the SR225. However, the older SR80 that I have had the open foam ring. I've checked the Web, and indeed publicity photos of the earlier version show open foam ring. This suggests that the earlier SR80 was designed to have an open foam ring: hence terrible loss of sound quality with the solid foam. I mean, it's really noticeable. I solved my problem by cutting a circular portion out of the solid foam replacement. This is easy and seems to solve the problem: good audio, and though it's not quite as comfortable the better sound quality is really worth it (for the older SR80).

The Squish is Essential

These pads are necessary for wearing the SR-60s without receiving intense pain on your ears. It is too bad that they are ten dollars for the set, however. Losing just one of your originals makes the phones practically unusable and ten dollars is a steep cost for a couple pieces of formed foam.However, they're as essential as the cable running from the headphone to the output itself and so I highly advise you to buy these if you've been going without them. You'll remember the squishy comfort from your phones' halcyon days.

They fit my SR60's.

When I first opened them, I thought they were the wrong ones for my SR60 headphones. The opening is much smaller than the originals. But they stretched on (without feeling like they were stretched too far).If they were $6 I would give them five stars. I feel that $10 is too much, but there was no alternative.
